Club History and People

Since 1998
Established early in 1998 by Spencer Lui and Colman Chan, the then named 2.5RS club of Toronto was created for local RS owners to chat, socialize and share technical knowledge about Subaru?s latest (and really, only) performance oriented vehicle in North America. The 2.5RS club grew, and in 2000 renamed itself as the Toronto Subaru Club, to open up to other like minded Subaru enthusiasts driving other vehicles in Subaru?s lineup.
Now, 8 years later, after countless milestones like the release of the WRX, STi and other Turbo Subarus, the TSC continues to be the #1 subaru club and enthusiast forum in southern ontario. Below are some of the people that make it happen.

Administrators

James M.. - Club Principal / Webmaster / PITA
Cars: 1999 Impreza TS (gone), 2000 Impreza 2.5RS (gone), 1998 Impreza wagon.
Club Join date: Fall 1999

Bio: Joined the club in Fall of 99 to help the then "2.5RS club of Toronto" spruce up it's website, became more involved with the club from an events point of view, organization, etc. Spearheaded the progression from 2.5RS club to the now Toronto Subaru Club to include all subaru owners & models in early 2000 and upon the retirement of club founders Spencer Lui and Colman Chan assumed a lead role in the club in 2001.

Why I'm here - To assist, and benefit from, the huge community of like-minded Subaru Enthusiasts in Toronto.

Bio: Subarus are in my blood, my dad had a 1984 Subaru GL 4WD, and my brother had a 1987 Chaser 4WD. With that much Subaru exposure I was instantly drawn to rallies. In 1998 I totalled my brothers Golf and replaced it with a 1993 Impreza L wagon. With the newly outpouring of information on the internet and the ample free time at school I began my research on everything subaru. As soon as I found out about the 2.5 RS Club from my mechanic, my seach went on until I found it, to which immediately begged and pestered James to let me into the club even though I was not a 2.5RS. I attended my first club meet in 2000, and the friends rolled in from there. Since then I've become an active member found out that several members live in my neightbourhood. From then on I became the club Secrecetary and Treasurer. After several club meets and seeing JDM motors in 2 of the other members cars, my goal was them to speed up the wagon. This took much time and by then I had heard of the WRX coming to Canada I immediately saught all the info I could, it wasn't until a co-worker had brought home a Subaru brochure from the Detroit Autoshow in 2001 I was hooked on the 2002 WRX wagon. I immediately ordered my car in Feb and picked it up in May. To this date my car has undergone numerours mods, and now has a split personality, track car in summer and semi rally car in winter.

Bio: I have worked in the mobile electronics industry for the past 17 years - I have been a salesperson, installer, sales representative, product specialist, dealer trainer and magazine technical editor. I offer consulting services to dealers, manufacturers and distributors. I have worked with Rockford Fosgate, Precision Power, Clarion and Tube Driver on the manufacturing side and Base Electronics, Autosonics, Burlington Radioactive, Mr Tazzy Motorsports and Lethal Performance on the retail side.

I also have moderate experience with automobiles - I do all my own maintenance and upgrade installations, as well as work on friends cars. I've done some basic design work in terms of exhaust system upgrades, intakes, accessory electronics and so forth. I';ve rebuilt a few engines as well - and they seem to still run fine.

Why do I hang here? I've always found Subaru owners were a little different than the average sport compact enthusiast - perhaps it's due to the price of the cars, but most of these guys get it. Subaru makes a fine product, and I am proud to own one.

Bio: Subaru fanatic father of 2 girls that lives in Barrie because of TO's higher crime rate. My first Subaru was actually an RC Brat. Everyone else had something cool like the Hornet or the Frog I got the Brat. Now I wish I could find a real mint condition Brat to do a WRX swap on. Joined the club just as the WRX was released. Watched the club completely blow up and transform within a year. It went from a small group of RS and Legacy guys to a huge group of all Subarus, majority now WRX. I've seen Chasers, Justys, Bajas, Loyales, XTs and SVXs come and go. Never a Brat though. :(

Why I'm Here - I've driven and sat in many different makes and models of cars but after spending one winter in Subaru I was hooked for life.
- I've dished advice to many people to help make there mod decisions easier. I get a sense of fulfillment when they respond by saying thanks because everything worked out.
- I've meet quite a few genuinely nice and helpful people on this board some of whom I've formed a lasting friendship.
- Cheap parts. Thanks to the indecisive and mod happy guys who turn around and sell quality parts for great prices. Without you my car would be stock
